I come from the smaller town of Davison, Michigan, where I had an art studio in my parent's pungent smelling basement growing up. Though then, I was creating stacks of drawings consisting of clowns, cats and pine tree bedecked landscapes that were much more quantity over quality. My dad threw them out much to my dismay some years later and through it all, it was my highly idolized sister who taught me an important lesson: "It's about quality, NOT quantity Julia." Today, I reside in Chicago and show often, most commonly with a collective known as the studio. My subject matter centers around human beings, their vulnerability, transparency and willing to impart private information as I get to know them, as many of them are in fact strangers to me in the beginning. This has become quite common in my work - reaching out to those I admire as I tend to fixate, obsess and finally exhaust a subject within a single painting. I am currently working on a "Chicago Artist" series.
